This Company is Changing the Employment Workforce for MILSOs

This post is sponsored by Boldly, a remote staffing company seeking talented military spouses for long-term assignments. All opinions are my own.

I Loved My Job.

Prior to military life, I’d never had a lot of trouble finding employment. I even remember when I found my dream job. I had gone to school to be a Speech-Language Pathologist and all that hard work was finally paying off. Not only did I have a W2 position that fulfilled me and provided me with benefits and security, but it helped provide for my family.

Then my husband approached me about going back into the military, and things definitely changed. Of course I support and love him, but so many things went through my mind. First came questions about how long he would be gone for deployments, and how life would be for our children. I also became nervous and filled with questions about what I would do when it comes to work. After all, I worked hard for my job and the military life would definitely serve as a “problem”. Does this sound familiar to you?

There Are Quite a Few Obstacles

Some of the obstacles many MILSOs face when it comes to job searching include:

  • Having to apply to positions with gaps in our resume due to PCSing, deployments or other life situations
  • Licenses and Certifications that do not transfer from one state to another.
  • Employers being reluctant to hire a military spouse, assuming he or she will move again in a few years.
  • Establishing a new local client base takes time after every move (I was a photographer for a few years and this was the biggest struggle).
  • Childcare is necessary because of the inconsistent schedule and possible deployments of the service member. And finding safe and affordable child care can be very expensive.

I had every single one of these obstacles when looking for employment when our family became a military family. I got pregnant with our first child and PCSed alone to a new place across the country. Additionally, I was experiencing the LONG wait of my licenses for a new state and I had NO clue where to even start looking.

Then there were the kids to worry about…

Once all that worked out, I needed to find flexible child care for my new baby, and the only job opportunities I had at the time was to start my own business (which I did with photography for a while). Or I could take an independent contractor position (which caused complications, including dealing with my own taxes and no other benefits). For me, I felt stuck and had no other options that gave me everything I desired in a position.

Speaking to other MILSOs, it became clear to me that this is something that many face. With all these obstacles in the way, it doesn’t take long for many MILSOs to realize that the best kind of job for the military lifestyle is a remote position that can move with you after each PCS.  But what exactly does that look like? To many, remote work means either joining a platform or joining the gig-economy, or selling products to all your friends and family. But that’s not the case! One company is bound and determined to change the narrative!

“Real” Remote Positions

Boldly is a remote staffing company, offering 100% remote, part-time and flexible W2 positions for military spouses! Not only that, but they offer other amazing benefits including competitive pay (all positions start at $20 an hour)! Plus they promote from within and offer opportunities for growth. All employment positions offer paid time off and a part-time schedule (with the ability to move to full-time over time). Did you hear that? ALL offer paid time off!

Boldly was founded in 2012 and is a remote staffing company with more than 120 team members working across the US, Canada, and Europe. It was named one of Fortune Magazine’s 50 Best Small Workplaces in 2019. Plus is the 2018 winner of the coveted “When Work Works” award given by the Society of Human Resource Management. This highlights how effective and flexible workplaces can yield positive business results and help employees succeed at work and at home.

It was also recently listed as Top 100 company on Flexjobs “Top 100 list” as well as Entreprenuer Magazine’s “Best Entrepreneurial Companies in America” list. These are all fancy ways of recognizing that Boldly is making a huge difference in the lives of those searching for remote work, aka. military spouses.

They Get It!

Boldly KNOWS what it is like to live the military lifestyle. In fact, 70% of Boldly’s Leadership (managers) are military spouses! Also, 20% of their total team is military spouses – built-in support from individuals who know the same challenges as you! In fact, Boldly Founder and CEO, Sandra Lewis said “In living a life filled with a lot of uncertainty, we have found the military spouses on our team appreciate the predictability that comes with working with Boldly. And because we’re a close-knit team, having a community takes the loneliness and isolation out of working remote, while still leaving the benefits.”

“Military spouses make some of our best candidates. They’re loyal, resourceful, quick-thinking, adaptable. They have amazing soft skills that make them excellent employees and we’re thankful to have them on our team!”

Will Boldly Work for You?

Similar to any job, Boldly wants to make sure that they are a good fit for YOU and vice versa. They look for professionals with 7+ years of experience (does not have to be consecutive!) and are hiring in the current 23 states across the US.

  • California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington

They additionally consider candidates with residency or temporary stations in these states per MSRRA (Military Spouse Residency Relief Act), so if you qualify they could still hook you up! Plus the work is interesting and challenging with top clients in areas that interest you! Ever felt alone in military life? In spite of all the employees being remote, everyone employed with Boldly is encouraged to keep in touch with fun company initiatives to participate in.

However, you may be wondering, “Will it be the right fit”? What impresses me the most is how personalized the whole process is. They take the time to get to know every member of their team – their likes, dislikes, what type of employment interests them etc. Then, they give you the option on which clients YOU would like to work with. No assigning projects or clients.

You are in the driver’s seat, they simply provide the road map and help connect you to the right “destination” of a position. This is unlike other staffing companies — and since they are NOT a platform, and instead are an employed team, the opportunities are endless.

What are you waiting for?

Are you struggling to find the position of your dreams, maybe feel the pressure If you are in the market for a position, don’t wait another moment. If it’s a match, Boldly will take your hand and guide you to the position of your dreams. After all, what do you have to lose?
