Top 10 Simple Family Halloween Costume Ideas

Save for later!

Halloween is almost here!

Anyone else as excited as my family??? Our house is decked out with lots of decorations, halloween table cloths and lots of pumpkins. My kids are really excited for the candy and trick-or treating. This year, we have a church truck-or-treat, halloween parties at school and then halloween night trick-or-treat. Lots of candy headed our way!

I tend to plan our costumes weeks and weeks in advance. This year, I had several ideas for costumes, but I wasn’t sure which direction I wanted to go, nor did I know if my husband would be deployed or not. Plus this year, I have three kids, so finding things that would work for all three, AND both adults (or just one) was a bit of a challenge. But I think we figured it out! Stay tune, I’ll be sure to update you!

Need some Inspiration??

I looked for lots of different inspiration and I wanted to share some of the ones I found! I also wanted to share our last three years of Halloween costumes, growing in fun and number of children.  Many of these can be adjusted depending on if both adults are present or not or how many children you have. So, here you go: My top ten family costume ideas for families!

 Winnie the Pooh

Isn’t this just the cutest?! I adore the headband on the little Pooh! Depending on how many members in your family, you can add Eeyore, Rabbit, Tigger, etc. This is also a simple costume too!

Cops and Robbers

What a smart idea! Stripped shirts, black pants, masks and a bag of cash, and you have the recipe of a great heist of a costume! With or without the crap, it’s a adorable costume for the whole family.

Frozen

Who can forget one of the most popular halloween costumes from 2013-2015? Yes, and I am sure it is still just as popular these days! Pretty much every little girl would be excited to be Elsa or Anna.

Where’s Waldo??!

Seriously, could it get any better??? And adding the camera was such a perfect touch to this costume, don’t you think? Boys or girls, this would be a fun costume to take on.

Pac-Man Family Costumes

Ugh! I just about died! Can you believe how SIMPLE and awesome this is?! Brings back so many memories. No matter how many kids you have, this would be an perfect, simple and inexpensive family costume idea. Check out the tutorial HERE!

Peanuts

Has your family watched this movie? It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown is a classic Halloween watch at this house. Adding your pet to a family costume would be really fun (too bad we do not have one)!

Classic Halloween Characters

Last year (2017), my oldest wanted to choose our costumes. Thankfully, her choices were perfection and I was so pleased with how they turned out! As you can tell, she was thrilled too! Family costumes don’t always have to be complicated and the classics are always a hit.

Care Bears

This was our family costume 2016 – I used cardboard for the clouds on our stroller, got sweatshirts and pants from primary.com for the kids and Walmart for us adults, and then used felt and glitter glue for the ears, tails and belly badges. It was inexpensive and we could use the sweats for a while afterwards. Plus, it was comfy and cozy the whole time!

Bun in the Oven

Ignore little miss and her “stink-eye”; she had a lot of fun and was the cutest little cupcake in the world. This was a simple costume! The oven was on sale on amazon, but if you wanted to go even more simple, you can get a t-shirt with the same images and it would be perfect!

Popeye

Ignore the red eyes and the 6 week post-partum body. This is one of my favorite costumes we have done. Super simple too!

Are you ready for Halloween??

I hope that this has helped you see any options for costumes this year and for years to come. Family costumes can be about anything! With a little work and some imagination, you can make any shape and size of a family into whatever they want to be. Just have fun with it, snap a photo to remember and enjoy that family time! You’ve got 9 more days! Go make some magic!
